(Mouse Over Me for Laughter )

RARELY ALMOST NEVER ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do we laugh?
We laugh because we have tension, stress & pain that is playfully presented or realized. Comedians hold our collective stress, tension & pain up to us in a playful enough manner that it triggers our laughter.

Why do I laugh when someone falls?
We laugh when someone falls because of projected embarrassment (or the memory of fear). It is also programmed into us to be fearful of falling. Laughter cathartically rebalances the chemistry of fear. We laugh when adults fall, not usually when children fall (except when they are beginning to walk). We adults are supposed to know how to walk.

How can I make my husband/wife laugh?
Don't make anyone laugh. In fact, don't make anyone do anything. No one knows what another adult needs. I can barely figure out what I need much less what you need. Maybe that "serious" person's mother just died.

Do animals laugh?
There is a strong indication that chimpanzees laugh. It would follow that gorillas may do so as well. I believe dolphins laugh because one laughed at me (I swear it did!) not with me.

If I laugh more will my breasts get bigger?
This was asked by a woman in Japan . My answer was "probably not".but, if you laugh enough, you won't care.

Is tickling a bad thing to do?
Yes, if it is done without permission or with someone less powerful than you. It is an invasion of personal space. The laughter is the cathartic rebalancing of fear. With kids who beg for tickling, just pretend to do it. It works better & doesn't chance adding distress.

Why don't I laugh anymore?
I don't know. It could be any number of things. Maybe you need to cry first or maybe it is the fear of losing control. It could also be the habit of seriousness.

Why do I get aches in the back of my head when I laugh?
Probably because you are using muscles to laugh that have been dormant. Many people complain of aching cheeks for the same reason. Sometimes with a long hard bout of laughter the muscles relax and demand more oxygen. That's why we yawn.

Why do people tell me I don't have a sense of humor?
Because you don't laugh at their jokes or laugh at what they think is funny. There is no agreement on what is "funny". If someone tells you a "funny" joke and you don't laugh, it AIN'T funny!

Why don't I laugh when others laugh?
This could be one of several reasons. You may have a different sense of humor or, you may feel ridiculed even if they aren't laughing at you. People who were teased merciless as children often feel any laughter is directed at them.

Is there a formula for laughter?
Yes. Charlie Chaplin said that in order to laugh you have to "play with your pain".

Do you have to laugh in a certain way?
No. Regardless of the judgments of others about our laughter, there is no right way or wrong way (unless it is at another's or one's own expense). Your laughter is always okay no matter how it sounds or how long it lasts!
