Presentations
Speeches & presentations require my physical presence (as well as Barbra's, my six pound Maltese doggie). As a result there is not only a fee for speaking but also all travel expenses must be covered (and a hotel that takes pets). I can also (gulp!) leave her with her sitter (even thought we are very co-dependent).
Length: The shortest laughter speech was 1-½ minutes (all laughter). The ideal length of time for a laughter speech is one hour to one and a half hours. If the speech is longer than 1-½ hours, bladders begin to fill & peoples' attention goes toward the nearest restroom (and Barbra woofs). A three hour presentation with a 20-minute play break (I bring toys) is also a popular way to go. Many groups have retreats for their staffs and/or members. To take a group out of its environment to a place of peaceful beauty is very healing in itself.
Requirements: During presentation, no food or drink PLEASE! Either people don't laugh with food in mouth, or they choke. With liquid, neighboring participants can get drenched. I found through experience that folks under the influence of alcohol (even just a bit of wine) become like a nightclub audience (probably because of laughter!) and I have actually been heckled!
No Eating, or Drinking, and No Alcohol, before or during PLEASE!
